NC Prelicensing Self Study Courses
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Effective January 1, 2008, there are six major types of licenses:
All, except the Variable Life and Variable Annuities, require 20 hours of prelicensing. Variable products may be sold under the Life license with an appointment and active registration to sell Securities with FINRA. Those wishing to obtain a Medicare Supplement/Long Term Care license must hold an Accident, Health or Sickness license, and successfully pass a 10 hour prelicensing course in order to take the state exam. We also offer this course through self-study. If Disability coverage is part of a Life policy, only a Life license is needed. If Disability is sold as a stand alone policy, an Accident, Health or Sickness license is needed. Effective October 1, 2010, candidates applying for a "first time" North Carolina Resident Insurance Producer (Agent's) license must submit a complete set of electronic fingerprints to NCDOI within 30 days of applying for a resident license. Those licensed prior to 10/1/10 applying for additional lines of authority or licenses, unless there have been certain lapses in authority, and those applying for a Company/Independent Firm or Self-employed Adjuster's license are exempt from the fingerprint requirement. Those applying for a Public Adjuster's license are subject to the fingerprint requirement. Details are on www.NCDOI.com under Agent Services. Our self-study prelicensing courses include a textbook which combine the study material for the Life license and Accident, Health or Sickness license, and a separate textbook which combine the study material for the Property license and Casualty license. In using our prelicensing course materials, you would take our combined prelicensing course (L&H or P&C) and prelicensing exams but a state exam for each license type you wish to obtain. There is no prelicensing requirement for those wishing to obtain an Adjuster's license; however, the NC Department of Insurance strongly recommends you obtain study materials to prepare yourself to pass the state exam. We offer study materials specifically designed for those wishing to become an Adjuster. HOW TO REGISTER:
Once you have obtained your license(s), the NC Department of Insurance requires continuing education. Feel free to contact us or you may view these requirements and your continuing education compliance period on our website under "Continuing Education - Registration Fees, Co Policies & CE Information".
